University of Leicester Botanic Gardens,
Artist in Residence
Jacky was the Artist in Residence, working with groups of children from 8 schools with children with special Needs . Following the success of this project, another residency followed, this time the project included mentoring and the production of three permanent art works for the gardens to add to their existing collection. Two of these were co created with two local Special Needs Schools .The Residency also included family and adult workshops.
Pin Oak, forged from stainless steel was developed from a series of drawings Jacky made from the pin oak leaves found in the gardens whilst the two other sculptures include cast bronze elements which were created by the children drawing or making impressions in clay with objects from the gardens. Jacky and her associate artist Nysa Walters and mentee Lauren Moorland then took wax casts from these, which were in turn cast in bronze. The elements are held in linear structures which were inspired by plants in the gardens.
